 NAUA HUNI–

 Indians Watching the White World

 60 min., 2009(1984)

A film by Barbara Keifenheim and

 Patrick Deshayes

The Kashinawa Indians of the Peruvian Ammazon

who had never seen filmic images before, here watch films

which the two anthropologists have shot in an industrial region of

Germany. B. Keifenheim and P. Deshayes record the reactions during

and after the screenings and by this method reveal the indigenous imagination

about the world of the Whites. In the same time appears that

the Kashinawa compare filmic images with drug induced visions.

In their language “Naua Huni” means as well “white man” as “hallucination”.

 Touching Eyes

 Beta SP, 26 min.

 A film by Barbara Keifenheim

The film relates an encounter between two women whom everything appears to separate.

For professional reasons and with no time for preparation, Barbara,
a European of around 50, ends up in South China without
being able to read or speak a single word of the country's language.
In the urban jungle of the provincial capital of Kunming,
she can make herself understood only with prepared index cards on which
her colleagues have written some useful addresses and a few everyday expressions.
To make sure, the Chinese characters are accompanied by a directional arrow
so that they won't be shown upside down.

Han Li, 17 years old, has been blind since birth and has been living away from her family
in a training institute for the blind for 10 years,
an institute which she has practically never left in that time.
She has almost completed her training as a masseuse and knows that
she will soon have to leave Kunming.

One day, Barbara visits the massage department of the school
in search of relief for her aching feet.Han Li, who has learned English,
is assigned to the foreigner as a therapeutic masseuse.

Beyond the cultural differences and the language and age barriers,
a tender friendship develops.Through mutual giving and taking,
they manage to break through their limitations and,
with astonishment, conquer "their" Kunming before their paths divide again.
